Claire Griffin Sterrett

Claire Griffin Sterrett was born in Washington, D.C. in 1976.  She graduated from the National Cathedral School in 1994.  In 2000 she moved to Los Angeles and she started pole dancing in 2005 with a woman named Tara Moore at Simply Seductress studios.  She has been a student at S Factor Studio and Evolve Dance Studio and is currently a PFA certified pole instructor through OC Pole Fitness as well as a certified Xpert Pole Instructor. 

In 2008 Claire completed her MA in Somatic Psychology.  Her thesis focused on Pole Dancing as a therapeutic means for women to reconnect with their sensual, sexual selves. After completing her thesis, Claire continued to explore the intersection of pole, dance movement, psychology, culture and gender politics on her blog, The Pole Story.  In 2011 she published her first book, The Pole Story: Essays on the Power of Erotic Dance.  Currently Claire does writing and editing work for X-Pole and Bad Kitty as well as writing for her own blog. 

Claire has been a speaker and workshop instructor at the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Pole Dance Conventions, and has taught her workshop on sensuality around the country. From 2011 to 2012 she served as Editor-in-Chief of Vertical Art and Fitness Magazine. 

Claire holds BA in French Literature from The University of Colorado at Boulder, a Masters in Somatic Psychology from The Santa Barbara Graduate Institute and is currently pursuing a Masters in Social Work at The University of Southern California.  She is specializing in Community Organization and Planning, with a sub-specialty in military culture.  Claire is also a licensed massage therapist and a certified infant massage instructor.  She currently lives in Washington, D.C.
